Bill Moyers Journal: Buying the War Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 9 PM on PBS (check local listings) How the administration marketed the war to the American people has been well covered, but critical questions remain: How and why did the press buy it, and what does it say about the role of journalists in helping the public sort out fact from propaganda? In this clip from the premiere of Bill Moyers Journal on PBS, Bob Simon of 60 Minutes, who was based in the Middle East, talks about the reporting he was seeing and reading out of the beltway, and John Walcott and Warren Strobel of Knight Ridder newspapers (now The McClatchy Company), discuss their work burrowing deep into the intelligence agencies to determine whether there was any evidence for the Bush Administration's case for war. On Wednesday, April 25 at 9 P.M. on PBS (check local listings), watch "Buying the War," a 90-minute documentary that explores the role of the press in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, which includes interviews with Dan Rather, formerly of CBS; Tim Russert of Meet the Press; and Walter Isaacson, former president of CNN. Two days later on April 27, the Bill Moyers Journal airs its regular timeslot on Fridays at 9 P.M. with interviews and news analysis of underreported stories across an array of beats, including: the environment, media, politics, the economy, arts and culture, and social issues.

It wasn't to take Iraq's oil, it was to CONTROL it, and protect OPEC's monopoly. Saddam didn't want to play ball with OPEC, and at first tried to rebel by refusing to sell his oil. OPEC had to chuckle, as would a parent hearing a child threaten to hold their breath until they die. Oil supply isn't a problem. But then Saddam threatened to sell the world all the oil it wanted at a third of OPEC's price, and that's what signed his death warrant. "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" was control of the oil fields.

The War was to steal oil. All the lies, all the lying was because George W. Bush and Dick Cheney saw a chance to steal oil. Ronald Reagan chose to start his 1980 Presidential Campaign in Philadelphia Mississippi, the site of one of the worst massacres in the Civil Rights Movement. The Philadelphia Mississippi Police Department tortured and murdered three college students for registering blacks to vote. The foundation of the Republican Party is HATE and GREED. That is all they believe.

And, if we lost, then who would win? Would Al Qaida win? When on the floor of the House of Representatives they cheer - they cheer - when they pass a withdrawal motion that is a certain date for surrender, what were they cheering? Surrender? Defeat? John McCain

"During war time, the generals, the politicians, and the business owners who profit from the war, should be paid the same as the enlisted man." "Only the men who are being sent to war, should be allowed to vote to go to war." - Quotes from Major General Smedley Butler, USMC, the most decorated military man to have ever worn an American military uniform; two-time winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
